UP BJP to have ‘triple talaq’ pramukh

LUCKNOW:The Bharatiya Janata Party’s minority wing in Uttar Pradesh is busy compiling a list of women who have been exploited through instant triple talaq.UP BJP’s minority wing chief Haider Abbas ‘Chaand’ said the party planned to appoint one woman in each district who would connect with the victims of instant divorce practice.

In all, the UP BJP plans to appoint nearly 100 odd triple talaq women activists whose task would be to identify women who have suffered because of this practice.

“After identifying these women across the state, we would also help them through various schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, Ujjawala scheme among other things. Each triple victim would be helped as per her ability and requirement,” Chaand said.

“Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, we have decided to take up booth membership campaign. We are also going to hold com- munity meetings and it’s in this light that we intend to have a triple talaq campaign for which we have tasked state secretary Nazia Alam to prepare a list of women who have suffered,” Chaand told HT. While Nazia Alam has been named ‘triple talaq pramukh’, Shahnaz Khan, who too is state secretary of the minority wing, has been named ‘triple talaq sah-pramukh’.

The UP BJP also plans to honour women, who have risked the wrath of the community by raising their voice against instant triple talaq.

“We plan to have a meeting of such women soon after Diwali,” Chaand said.
