‘Rahgiri’ to set the mood for Sunday morning
LUCKNOW :The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is all set to organise ‘Rahgiri’, a citizen initiative programme, on Sunday at the 1090 crossing on the entire stretch of the road covering marine drive at the Gomti riverfront.
A first of its kind activity to be organised by the development authority, it will be held every second and fourth Sunday of the month at the same venue. The three hour programme starting at 6.30am aims to promote Lakhnavi culture and health mantra among locals.
Second such activity will be organised on last Sunday of the month on November 25.
“We have been planning for the past several months to conduct this event (Rahgiri). Our aim is to provide entertainment with fitness mantra to locals. The event will also provide an opportunity to locals to display their skills,” said PN Singh, LDA VC.
“To start with, the first event will be organised on this Sunday. We will be organising two such events in a month on second and last Sundays,” added the VC.
“Through this event, we will also try to deliver the message of road safety and no-car day to check pollution and traffic congestion in the city,” said the LDA vice chairman.
The World Resources Institute (WRI) is also helping the development authority to conduct the event successfully. The WRI-India, a Delhi based not for profit organisation, has an expertise to turn big ideas into action. It has successfully conducted ‘Rahgiri’ at Connaught Place, New Delhi.
Executive engineer, LDA, SP Sisodia is the nodal officer of the event.
“To organise the event on such a large scale we need 15-days time. Depending on response from the public, we will consider organising the event on every Sunday,” said Sisodia.
At the mega event several activities have been planned to engage the public. From road safety campaign to cycling, skating, yoga, street play, self-defence training, walkathon, net cricket and street dance are some of the many events planned.
Inter-school competitions, performance by a musical band will also be organised.
