Gambling den unearthed, four arrested

LUCKNOW: The police arrested four people, including a businessma­n and two builders, and unearthed a gambling den in a flat in Narhi area on Sunday afternoon. They seized over ₹2.16 lakh from the accused.

Some others involved in gambling, however, managed to escape when the police team raided the flat.

They had got a tip-off about the presence of over 10 people involved in gambling in a flat at Gopala Apartments in Narhi.

Those arrested were identified as Amit Singh, Santosh Kumar, Mohd Shariq and Vipin Kumar – all residents of Lucknow.

Amit and Santosh are builders while Shariq is a businessma­n and the fourth accused runs a photo studio, said Abhay

He said there were reports of a gambling den being operated from a rented flat and the raid was conducted after a specific input of presence of many people in the flat on Sunday afternoon.

Initially, the police team got confused and entered into another flat, which alerted the gamblers and many of them managed to escape.

However, the cops managed to arrest four people and recovered the money put for gambling.

He said the arrested people revealed names of some other persons involved in the racket and raids were on for their arrest.
