LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said the country was in grip of an economic crisis due to the wrong policies of the BJP-led NDA government at the centre. “The government has failed to control inflation due to demonetization and GST,” he said.

In a press statement, Yadav said the farmers were not getting the support price of their crops.

“Unavailability of fertilizer, seed and electricity has pushed the country as well as the state into the grip of agrarian crisis and common people are worst hit,” he said.

Akhilesh said since the saffron brigade grabbed power at the centre as well as in the state, the agriculture sector had been worst hit.

He said farmers were feeling cheated; sugarcane crushing season had started but the farmers were yet to get the arrears; they were not getting the minimum support price of the crops announced by the government.

“The BJP government has increased the price of the fertilizer and seeds. The price of the pulses has sky rocketed. The price of the domestic LPG has increased to ₹979.50. Price of the edible oil too has increased. The increase in the price of the petroleum products has led to increase in the transportation charges as well,” he said.

He said farmers were in grip of debt and within four years 50000 farmers had committed suicide. Instead of providing relief to the farmers the BJP government was promoting crony capitalism and its leaders were misguiding the people, he said.

“The BJP government has failed to fulfill promises made to the people. The income of the farmers have not increased. The government misguided the farmers by organizing agriculture kumbh,” Yadav said.
