LUCKNOW:In a bizarre incident, a bullet was fired inside the emergency ward of Balrampur Hospital on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday that made patients and attendants scamper for safety. Four people have been arrested in this regard.

The incident took place when two groups, who came from Madiaon to get their patients’ medical examination done, entered into a scuffle. After a heated argument, the two groups started beating each other and later one of them opened fire that hit the ceiling of the hall.

“Both the parties had some issue in Madiaon and had a scuffle there. Then they came here to get the medical examination done. During the treatment, they again entered into a scuffle,” said Dr Rajeev Lochan, director of the hospital.

The incident took place in the central hall of the complex. At the time of the incident, security guards were deployed at the hospital but they could do nothing especially when one of them opened fire. “The bullet hit the ceiling else there could have been a major mishap,” said an attendant.

Police were immediately called on the spot and four people– Anoop Mishra, Anuj Mishra, Satyam Tiwari and Ravindan Rai – were arrested. In the melee, some others managed to flee.

Cops also recovered a country-made pistol and cartridge. Gunshot was confirmed as the recovered ammunition smelled of gunpowder.

A video of the incident also went viral. SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said teams have been formed and cops were screening the video for tracing those who managed to escape.
