LUCKNOW: Almost a month after the murder of Abhijit Yadav, 22, younger son of sitting UP legislative council chairman Ramesh Yadav, police on Monday arrested domestic help Sarvesh Kumar for complicity in the crime.

Abhijit’s mother Meera, who is the prime accused in the murder case, is already under arrest.:

“The police team investigating the matter arrested Sarvesh when it came to know that he was also present at the house at the time of the murder and assisted Meera in the crime,” said superintendent of police (east) Sarvesh Kumar Mishra.

“Sarvesh was absconding since the incident. He was arrested following a raid at his village,” the officer added.

Abhijit was murdered on the intervening night of October 20-21, allegedly by his mother, with the help of Sarvesh, following a verbal spat.

The family initially claimed that Abhijit died of ill health but post mortem examination confirmed ‘strangulation and head injury’ as the cause of death. Meera was arrested the next day.

A senior police officer privy to the investigation said Meera told the investigation team during interrogation that Abhijit abused and assaulted her almost daily .

“She apparently got tired of constant abuse and eventually decided to kill Abhijit. During medical examination, Meera showed her injuries to the doctors,” the officer said.

According to the statement given by Meera before the investigating team, Abhijit was addicted to drugs. .

Meera later turned hostile in court and claimed innocence, terming Abhijit’s death a conspiracy.
