LUCKNOW :Union textiles minister Smriti Irani on Friday gave success mantras to students of IIMLucknow during the B-school’s annual fest ‘Manfest-Varchasva’.

Sharing her experience during her first job, Irani said jobs are the best teachers, even as she recollected the days when she did work involving logistics.

The minister said she was among those few girls who entered into logistics business at the age of 17 and used to collect couriers from railway stations and airports. She said her work helped her understand flight time table, logistics business, and a lot more. “I can say that it is because of the jobs that I performed in the past, I am what I am today. It’s only the job that gives you the experiences that takes you further. People look forward to new job for better pay packages. I look at it as a new opportunity to have better experiences,” she said.

She said this while responding to a question about the ways budding managers (B School students) could excel in their jobs.

Irani also took a dig at Congress president Rahul Gandhi when a student sought her comment on the deteriorating level of politics and politicians. In response to the question, her reply was, “Are you talking about Rahul Gandhi?”

“Technical textile is perhaps the future of textiles. Jute is being used in road construction and in protecting population living in tough and hilly terrains while silk waste has pharmaceutical properties,” said Irani.

The minister also spoke about women’s empowerment. Her words: “Women tend to over compensate, they shouldn’t. They should not over apologise too…” sent a strong message across the audience. ››SEE ALSO HT CITY
