PRAYAGRAJ: Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya was on Friday granted bail by the special court (MP/MLA) in three cases, including a 10-year-old case related to a dispute of Durga Puja Pandal committee and violation of model code of conduct.
Maurya surrendered before the special court around noon after which his lawyers completed all the formalities and moved his bail application.
After hearing concerned parties, special judge (MP/MLA) Pawan Kumar Tiwari granted bail to Maurya on the condition
ON THE LAST DATE OF HEARING ON NOV 1, THE SPECIAL COURT HAD ISSUED A NONBAILABLE WARRANT AGAINST HIM
that he would cooperate in speedy disposal of trials.
On the last date of hearing on November 1, the special court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Maurya in a September 2008 case where he was named as a accused in a complaint that money was collected from public after forging papers of a Durga Puja committee.
An FIR was lodged in this connection on September 22, 2008 at Mohabatpur Painsa police station of Kaushambi.
Maurya also faces a criminal case for violating the model code of conduct. The third case was registered at Kydganj police station of Prayagraj, according to which, Maurya compelled the authorities to permit a candidate to appear in an examination.
These cases are being heard by a fast-track court set up on the orders of the Supreme Court to expedite criminal cases against lawmakers.
Maurya’s lawyers denied the allegations, insisting that he had been framed by his political rivals in false cases. Maurya also claimed that cases against him were politically-motivated.
