ALIGARH: The Aligarh Muslim University cancelled the staging of a play on the campus after a map was displayed in publicity posters without parts of Jammu and Kashmir in India.

Show cause notice was issued to three people, including president and secretary of the drama club and an employee of the cultural education department of AMU for this omission.

The popular play on partition, written by Asghar Wajahat titled ‘Jine Lahore Nai Vekhya O Janmia Nai’ was to be staged on Sunday evening. For its publicity, posters were pasted at various locations. The matter came to light when Manvendra Singh, the vice-president of BJP’s Brij Prant regional committee, pointed out that the posters carried an erroneous map of India without portions of J&K. “‘It was found on Sunday that there was an error in the map of India and parts of Kashmir were missing.

The matter was taken seriously by vice chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor and the staging of the play was called off because of erroneous map,” said Shafey Kidwai, the public relations officer of AMU on Monday. “President of AMU drama club, Dr Vibha Sharma, secretary Razia Khanam and an employee of the Cultural Education Centre, Abdul Mannan were issued show cause notices and asked to submit their reply within two days,” Kidwai said. “Disciplinary action will be taken after receiving the reply,” he said
