‘We felt like journalists in the newsroom’
LUCKNOW: A visit to Hindustan Times office in Gomti Nagar on Monday was a great learning experience for all of us.
I was part of a team that would be writing articles for the newspaper considered to be one of the best in India. Our team comprised Arnav Shanker and myself from La Martiniere College; Devishi Kapoor and Khadija Suhaia from La Martiniere Girls’ College and Nisha Maurya & Manish Kumar from a school run by the labour department.
This event was a collaboration between Unicef and HT as part of World Children’s Day celebrations (November 20).
On reaching the newsroom, we were introduced to the edit team.
While making our way to the ‘work zone’, we came across a peaceful working atmosphere.
Here, we were introduced to HT’s senior Resident Editor who explained us what all goes into the making of a newspaper and how edit teams race against time to generate content. We also met other senior members of staff.
After a briefing on how the articles were to be written, we got down to the job in separate cubicles.
These articles ranged from inputs by two children from the labour department school to articles on topics like bullying, parental pressure etc.
The visit to HT taught us a lot about the efforts that go into the production of a broadsheet.
We truly felt like journalists in the small amount of time we spent in the newsroom. ABHISHEK KUMAR La Martiniere College, Lucknow
