LUCKNOW : Captain Sameer Rizvi struck a double century; whereas Satnam Singh hit a ton to help former champions Uttar Pradesh take a huge 262-run first innings lead against Uttarakhand in their Central Zone Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, at the Victoria Park Ground in Meerut on Monday.

SEAMERS EXCEL!

Fine spells by seamers Kartik Tyagi and Purnank Tyagi helped last year runners-up Uttar Pradesh launched their campaign in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy in style, skittling out Chhattisgarh for 149 in 65.3 overs in the first innings.

Making full use of the home conditions at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, both Kartik and Purnank surprised Chhattisgarh batsmen with pace, and took four and three wickets, respectively. Akshay Sain (2/21) and Kunal Yadav (1/23) also bowled well.

Uttar Pradesh were 27/0 in 10 overs in reply. At close of stumps, Anchit Yadav (14) and Aryan Sharma (13) were at the crease.

It was a good toss to win by UP skipper Aryan Sharma as Chhatisgarh batsmen never found the going easy. Within seven overs, they were reduced to 4/3. Opener RV Sharma (39), Umang Soni (25) and Vijay Yadav (21) remained the notable run getters for Chhattisgarh.
