Curtains for SAI Lucknow in Nehru hockey tourney

LUCKNOW:It was curtains for debutant Sports Authority of India, Lucknow at the 55th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament at Chandigarh on Monday as they went down meekly to Punjab and National Bank 1-8.

The winners dominated the proceedings from the very start and shot four goals in the first half itself through Sanjay, Shamsher, Gurjinder and Prakash Barla, before SAI shot one back through Rajnesh Salaria in the second quarterfinal of the day.

Sanjay and Shamsher had one more goal each in the second half, whereas Sukhjeet and Gursimran too shared two goals between in the last quarter of play.

A DIVISION CRICKET

Top nine teams of the city would be vying for the top honours in the CAL’s A division League, beginning Tuesday, at the LDA Stadium here with the opening match between Akhil Infra and UP Timber.

Other seven teams in the fray included LCA Club, Rudransh Club, Sound Images, Raj Garden, LCA Academy, NE Railway and LDA Coaching Centre.

COLLEGIATE CRICKET

Hosts SN Mishra Memorial School defeated Jaipuria School by 120 runs in a knockout match of the Col SN Mishra Memorial Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament here on Monday. In other match of the day, BSNV Inter College beat Maharishi School by 76 runs.

ASCA TRIUMPH

Abhijeet Sinha Cricket Academy (ASCA) won the Indira Gandhi Cup Cricket Tournament, defeating Yorker Cricket Club by 27 runs, at the KD singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Monday. ASCA first scored 153 in 34.3 overs and then skittled out rivals for 126 in 33.4 overs.

POLICE ATHLETICS

Lucknow Zone athletes Rahul and Jaswinder Kaur won the men and women sections gold in 200m event at the UP Police Athletics Meet, at the 35th Battalion PAC Stadium here on Monday. Other gold medal winners on day one, included Anand Sharma, Meena Yadav, Ranjeet Singh, Monika Tyagi, Dimple Singh, Vishvendra Kumar, Chandrahas Kushwaha, Sahikant Rai, Deepak Singh and Preeti Singh.
