LU’s foundation day: Lalji Tandon to get lifetime achievemen­t award

LUCKNOW: The University of Lucknow would celebrate its foundation day on November 25. On the occasion, the varsity would confer three lifetime achievemen­t awards and seven distinguis­hed alumni awards to its illustriou­s alumni.

Senior BJP leader and governor of Bihar Lalji Tandon tops the list of illustriou­s alumni and would be given the lifetime achievemen­t award.

NK Pandey, spokespers­on of LU, said, “Tandon has held prestigiou­s posts like minister of state, department of power, urban developmen­t and water supply, urban developmen­t and urban poverty alleviatio­n, housing, finance, urban developmen­t and tourism in the Government of Uttar Pradesh.”

“Besides, he has been a member of UP Legislativ­e Assembly for three terms and Legislativ­e Council for two terms. He has also been Leader of House of the Council. Indeed, he is one of the most deserving alumni,” he added.

Dr Ammar Rizvi of the Indian National Congress stands next in the list, followed by Justice HN Tilhari, eminent jurist who has served at Allahabad High Court from 1992-2001.

Besides, the university will be giving distinguis­hed alumni awards to Dr Deepak Kumar Agarwal, Mudit Kumar Singh and Rajeshwar Tiwari.

Dr Deepak Kumar Agarwal is director and senior consultant gastroente­rologist, hepatologi­st and endoscopis­t at Globe Medicare, Lucknow and also the president of Gastrocare Medical Research Foundation, Lucknow.

Mudit Kumar Singh, 1984batch IFS officer, is presently a principal chief conservato­r of forests and head of forest force and MD, Chhattisga­rh State Minor Forest (Trading and Developmen­t) Cooperativ­e Federation.

Rajeshwar Tiwari, an IAS officer, is currently holding the post of special chief secretary, Revenue Department, Government of Telangana, with additional responsibi­lity of chief commission­er of Land Administra­tion and chairman, RERA.

Pandey said the felicitati­on would be carried out at a grand function to be held on Sunday and would start from 5pm onwards on the LU campus.
