Special efforts needed to ensure UP tops in cleanliness, says CM Adityanath
GORAKHPUR Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday called upon people to adopt healthy habits and help UP secure the top ranking in cleanliness by keeping their wards, localities and the city clean.
Adityanath was addressing a gathering after flagging off a Swachhta (cleanliness) rally from the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Gorakhpur University.
The chief minister said adopting healthy habits could help prevent the outbreak of diseases like dengue, malaria, kala-azar and encephalitis, which claimed hundreds of innocent lives every year. The chief minister hailed the PM for initiating the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the country.
“States are competing with each other when it comes to cleanliness. Special efforts are required to help the state secure the top position in cleanliness,” the chief minister said.
Over 6,000 school and college students as well as National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets were present at the rally. The chief minister attended the function before leaving for electioneering in Rajasthan where assembly polls are scheduled on December 7. Making announcements about Gorakhpur, he said the government had sanctioned Rs 9 crore for Kanha Upvan here, an underconstruction shelter house for stray animals. He also said Rs 50 crore had been earmarked for arranging potable drinking water, Rs 16 crore for drainage and Rs 72 crore for sewage.
