IIM students get to learn about value investing

LUCKNOW: To promote the culture of value investing and management of personal finances among the students, Credence Capital, the investment fund of IIM Lucknow, hosted its annual investment summit, Nivesh, on Sunday.

A four-part event, Nivesh includes flagship speaker sessions, an engaging panel discussion, a hands-on workshop on value investing and finally a panIndia equity research competitio­n for students of top MBA colleges at the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow.

The overall theme for Nivesh 2018 was ‘Mastering Investment and Business Cycles’ and the speaker session saw some of the biggest names in the industry, including Harsha Upadhyaya (CIO, Kotak Mahindra AMC), Anish Tawakley (fund manager, ICICI Prudential), Nithya Easwaran (Multiples Equity), Akash Singhania (Sr. VP, Motilal Oswal) and Vihang Naik (fund manager, L&T Mutual Fund) sharing their opinions and insights with the student body.

The students had the opportunit­y to learn about investment philosophy and stock picking process from these investors, through their industry experience.

This was followed by the much awaited panel discussion on ‘Behavioura­l nuances of investing cycles’ moderated by Mangalam Maloo. The discussion dwelt upon the multiple facets of the investment scenario and shed some light on how seasoned profession­als saw the markets going forward.

Nivesh 2018 was a wonderful opportunit­y for students to interact with profession­als from the industry and gain knowledge beyond the textbook. The summit was an astounding success for novices and seasoned investors alike and inculcated an interest in value investing both on and off the campus.
