‘Society can’t progress without women’s empowermen­t’

LUCKNOW: Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University hosted the 2nd chapter of TEDxSRMU Women on the varsity campus on Monday. The theme for TED Women Conference this year was ‘Showing Up’. The curated talks of eminent speakers touched various aspects of TEDx theme.

Pro chancellor Pooja Agarwal, vice chancellor VK Singh and registrar UK Singh attended the event. The programme began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by the welcome address.

Swati Sharma, a social activist, humanitari­an and principal of Asha Jyoti School shed light on the perks of maintainin­g positivity in life. Her school caters to mentally challenged children.

Elisabetta Marino, associate professor, University of Rome, interacted on Skype and mentioned the relevance of literature in the developmen­t of society. Folk singer Padma Shri Malini Awasthi, who is the brand ambassador of Bhojpuri Academy, spoke about the perks of a joint family. She voiced her opinion on the importance of staying connected to our culture and roots.

The vice chancellor of SRMU emphasised the fact that women should be given freedom in all aspects. He said no society could progress without women’s empowermen­t.

The event concluded with the address of the pro chancellor who gave an amazing narration of the muti-tasking capacity of a working woman in modern society.
