Kazal, Sonam excel in women’s hockey

LUCKNOW: Kazal and Sonam struck a brace each as favourites Meerut crushed Azamgarh 6-0 to make it to the next round of the State Senior Women’s Hockey Tournament, at the Padma Shri Mohd Shahid Synthetic Hockey Stadium here on Monday.

Kazal scored in the 14th and 22nd minutes, whereas Sonam hit in 47th and 51st minutes, respective­ly. Tanu and Muskan-II shared two goals between them as Meerut enjoyed a perfect domination over the rivals from the word go.

In other matches of the day, Devipatan notched up a thrilling solitary goal win against Mirzapur with Priya Srivastava striking a field goal in the 36th minute, Agra beat Saharanpur 4-3 in tie-break, and Moradabad beat Kanpur by 2-1.

FINE SHOW

Staging a fine show at the HCL Foundation National Sports Meet in Ghaziabad, students of Government Jubilee Inter College bagged two gold, one silver and a bronze medal.

Divyanshu Vishwakarm­a claimed 400m gold, and later helped the team win 4x100m relay gold.

Volleyball team finished runners-up and win a silver, whereas in long jump Dheeraj Singh Yadav claimed a bronze.

THRILLING WIN

LDA Coaching Centre scored a thrilling three-wicket win over Lucknow Cricket Academy in an A division Cricket League match, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Monday.

After restrictin­g LCA for 148/9 in 40 overs, LDACC romped home in 36.3 overs. Zeeshan struck highest 40. Meanwhile, in a D division match, IPRK Cricket Club defeated Ekana Rangers by 44 runs in a low-scoring game.

BOWLERS SHINES

Rishabh Sharma took 5/14, whereas Sumit Gupta had 3/9 as Panthers Cricket Academy defeated Lucknow Cricketers by 100 runs in a league match of the BB Gupta Memorial Cricket Tournament, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari Stadium here on Monday.

BIG WIN

Mubashshir made 92-ball 105 with the help of 16 fours as Youth Cricket Club scored a thumping 211-run win against K Cricket Academy Red in a league match of the Under-14 RD Sinha Memorial Cricket Tournament, at the Avadh School Ground here on Monday. Adarsha and Mubashshir took four and three wickets, respective­ly.
