Dumping of garbage: High court seeks reply from authorities
LUCKNOW: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has sought a reply with action-taken report from the principal secretaries of urban development, environment, Lucknow Development Authority vice-chairman, municipal commissioner and secretary Pollution Control Board in the case against dumping of garbage in an open space, in Gomtinagar locality, here.
A division bench of justice Shabeehul Hasnain and justice Saurabh Lavania passed the order on Thursday on a writ petition filed by the Residents Welfare Society Vikas Khand through its secretary. The society sought directions to shift the dumping station set up at the vacant plot of land located near Dayal Crossing, Vikas Khand -5, Gomtinagar to an appropriate site earmarked under the Master Plan 2021.
The grievance of the petitioner was that the Municipal Corporation is dumping garbage across the road in front of houses of residents, creating a health hazard for thousands of residents.
An affidavit was filed by the pollution control board stating that it had issued notice to Municipal Carporation to stop dumping garbage at the site in question.
According to petitioner’s counsel Gaurav Mehrotra, the court made strict observations on the matter and ordered for conditional appearance of principal secretaries of urban development and environment on December 17 along with action-taken report, in event personal affidavits of principal secretaries are not filed. The court listed the case for December 17.
