Army Service Corps celebrates 258th Foundation Day

LUCKNOW : The Army Service Corps (ASC) celebrated its 258th Foundation Day at Central Command, Lucknow on Saturday to commemorat­e the gallant soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Senior ASC officer Major General PP Singh laid wreath and paid floral tribute the martyrs at Smritika War Memorial here.

The Army Service Corps (ASC) is the oldest and largest administra­tive service in the Indian Army. It is the logistics backbone of the armed forces and is responsibl­e for provisioni­ng of rations and petroleum products apart from air maintenanc­e, provisioni­ng of mechanical transport and animal transport support to formations across the country.

It has consistent­ly evolved and emerged as a modern, informatio­n tech savvy and network centric organizati­on catering to the ever-changing strategic and operationa­l environmen­t of the Army.

Corps has participat­ed in large number of campaigns including World War-I & World War-II and fought over in three continents and over all types of terrains, from dry deserts to snowy mountains, jungles and high altitude.

Post independen­ce, the ASC has taken part in operations in Kashmir, Nagaland, against the Chinese in Ladakh, NEFA in 1962 and against Pakistan in 1965 and 1971. It took part in IPKF Operation in Srilanka, Operation VIJAY and Operation PARAKRAM.
