‘India must foster innovation culture’
LUCKNOW : IT expert and former regional director, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Jayant Krishna on Saturday said the Indian IT-ITeS industry already accounted for USD 160 billion of annual revenue contributing 9.5% to India's GDP and employing 40 lakh people directly and another 1.2 crore persons indirectly.
Speaking at the Computer Society of India's National Conference on 'Digital India - Altering Lives' today at PNB IT Institute auditorium, Krishna said, “India and Indians have acquired leadership status worldwide and already contribute almost twothirds of all digitally involved FTEs (Full Time Equivalents) in the global landscape.”
“The industry is already embracing digital technologies big time, including cloud computing, mobility, social media, big data and analytical. Lot of work is already happening in India on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT),” he said.
He described the Digital India Mission as a programme that was transforming India into a digitally empowered society.
He said Digital India Mission’s vision included providing digital infrastructure as a utility to every citizen, making available e-governance services on demand to business and people .
Jayant further said India must foster innovation culture, build capabilities and put in place improved regulatory frameworks for intellectual property protection, cyber security and ease of creation of Public Private Partnership in education and skills.
