LUCKNOW: People (including VIPs) arriving at Chaudhary Charan Singh international airport can now expect a hasslefree entry into the city, as the district administration has chalked out a set route from the airport via Transport Nagar, Arjunganj, Katai ka Pul and Bandariya Bagh crossing.

The decision has been taken in view of traffic jams on Kanpur Road and other adjoining areas that often cause problems for those arriving at the airport, as well as the district administration handling frequent VIP movements.

The district administration on Monday directed the Nagar Nigam to make the entire stretch encroachment-free for the convenience of travellers .

District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said the route was shortlisted almost a year back but the decision couldn’t take final shape. “We have now decided to take up the route defining project on priority basis. The project includes

defining of route, its beautification, illumination and making it free from encroachment,” the DM said in a meeting with officials of Nagar Nigam and other

departments.

The DM also directed all the departments, including Nagar Nigam, LESA, LDA, UP Housing board and others to pitch in to transform the route.

The Nagar Nigam has been directed to take care of cleanliness , especially in the area alongside Shaheed Path. It has been also directed to put up facade lights, street lights and solar lights that will not only illuminate the route but also highlight it.

LESA has been directed replace old rusty electricity polls, dangling wires and faulty switches .

The DM said the electricity department would also ensure that the overhead wires went underground and transformers were overhauled.

The administration also chalked out a special plan to decongest Arjunganj area, which is said to be the most traffic jam -prone area on the route. “We have a special plan for Arjunganj that includes making the area encroachment -free, removal of the vegetable market on the main road, removal of illegal meat shops on the road and setting up of dustbins in the market,” he said.

The airport authority has also been directed to keep the premises clean and to streamline the movement of taxis and commercial vehicles on its premises.
