Lucknowites take steps for human rights
LUCKNOW: Youth for Human Rights -- India joined the world community in walking for peace and tolerance on Monday, the World Human Rights Day.
Scores of people from all walks of life assembled at the 1090 crossing here to observe the occasion and participate in the walk organised by the group.
The event began at 10 am. Participants walked towards Kalidas Marg and then back to the 1090 crossing.
Students of universities, colleges, schools, NCC battalions, members of various clubs, parents, and other communities joined this remarkable initiative to create awareness among people for building peace and tolerance, and using their human rights while doing so, in accordance with the United Nations Universal Declaration Of Human Rights.
Minister of state Swati Singh inaugurated the event.
She motivated the participants and appreciated the efforts of Youth for Human Rights in working for the cause of preserving human rights in India, encouraging them to carry on with their good work.
Arjumand Zaidi, organiser of the walk and national president, Youth for Human Rights , said that the campaign was aimed at promoting peace and tolerance through human rights.
Speaking on the occasion, she encouraged children to be bold, truthful and be mindful of each other’s human rights, working to support and safeguard them.
Navyug Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Pioneer Montessori, New Bal Bharti School, Brain Convent School, Integral University and various other institutes and organisations, several prominent persons of the city and many fitness enthusiasts participated in the event.
After the walk, different groups showcased their talents too.
Later on, ‘Student Peace Awards’ were given to two participants from every group.
The event was sponsored and supported by the St Xavier’s Convent School and the Holy Vision International.
These organisations have been working for the education and upliftment of the poor for the past 15 years.
