Three drown, five missing as boat capsizes
PRAYAGRAJ: Three women drowned while some others were missing after a boat carrying 14 people of a family from Maharashtra capsized in the Yamuna River while it was coming to Mankameshwar Temple from Sangam on Monday evening. A search operation was on for the missing persons till the reports last came in.
Water police team immediately launched a search operation and rescued nine persons while efforts were on to trace five other missing people, SSP Nitin Tiwari said.
Meanwhile, chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the incident and instructed the administration to ensure treatment of those rescued.
The chief minister also directed the district officials to rope in NDRF and SDRF teams for rescue operation. The illfated people belonged to Latur, Parbhani and Nanded district of Maharashtra.
Keshav Nanoba, one of those rescued, said he and 13 other members of his family had come to Sangam for immersing the ashes of their dead relative. They hired a boat at Sangam to reach the Mankameshwar Temple in Kydganj area. The boat was near the temple when it overturned.
Keshav Nanoba’s wife Radhabai, 60, and relatives Bhagabai, 65, and Laxmibai, 70, were brought dead at SRN Hospital. Keshav Nanoba, Angad, Jyoti and another person were being treated, the police said.
