‘Develop Gorakhpur as city of knowledge’
GORAKHPUR: Praising Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad (MPSP)—the academic venture of the Gorakhnath Mutt— for its immense contribution to the field of education, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Monday that Gorakhpur should be developed as a city of knowledge in the next 15 years as the state has the largest human resource in the country.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of inception week programme of MPSP at the Gorakhnath Temple, Kovind said it should be done by 2032—the centenary year of the Parishad. Gorakhpur is also the political turf of UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath who is also the chief priest of the Gorakhnath temple. Governor Ram Naik and the chief minister were also present at the event. The President also appreciated the CM for taking the state to the path of development. He further said under the new policies of the Yogi government, the youth of the state were encouraged to become ‘job creators’.
The President also gave away prizes to students who won different contests during the Parishad’s inception week celebrations. Telling children that education was key to development, Kovind said, “In true sense, an educated society is the one which gives importance to human values.” “In this context, I feel Gautam Buddha and Kabir were the greatest teachers,” the President added. Kovind also mentioned the names of saints and eminent personalities and places associated with Gorakhpur city like Gita Press and the Gorakhntah temple in his speech. “While Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya founded BHU to impart modern education, Mahant Digvijay Nath founded the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad to spread education in educationally backward east UP in the British era,” Kovind said.
