Condition of state varsities has improved: Naik

LUCKNOW: Governor Ram Naik said on Monday measures to hold copying free examination in state universities had given results and led to decline in number of students getting degrees in Uttar Pradesh.

Naik said number of students awarded degrees came down from 15,60,375 in 2017-2018 to 12,78,985 in 2018-2019. While many students did not turn up at the examination centres, some others could not get passing marks in 2018-2019, he said. Measures to check copying included installation of CCTV cameras at the examination centres.

Naik was speaking to media persons at Raj Bhawan here on Monday.

Replying to a question about proposed private universities bill, the governor said the bill was still being debated. The private universities too had the opportunity to make their point on the issue, said Naik. After being passed in the state legislature the bill would be examined in Raj Bhawan, he said.

Replying to a question, Naik said a scheme had been worked out to give an award to best performing university in the state. He said the conditions in the state universities had improved and rankings may be introduced there.

Naik said completion of convocation ceremonies of 26 state universities in 106 days in 2018-2019 was one of his major achievements as chancellor of state universities. Naik said as chancellor he ensured that all the state universities organised convocation ceremonies.
