Shambhavi off to a flying start

LUCKNOW : Top seeded and local challenger Shambhavi Tiwari launched her campaign in under-18 singles at the AITA Championsh­ip Series in style on Monday, notching up a straight sets win against Tanisha Pranjal, at the SDS Tennis Centre here. Lanky Shambhavi was right on target from the word go, wresting the first set at 6-2 against another local girl Tanisha. In the second set too, Shambhavi won at 6-3.

FINE SHOW

Hosts Uttar Pradesh hogged the limelight on the opening day of the 6th National Thighyogas­port Championsh­ip, 12 medals, including six gold and six silver medals here . The medal winners included, Aman Kashyap, Prajjwal, Sanskar Singh, Akhand Yadav, Anand, Akash Shilpakar, Kuldeep Singh, Krishna Manglani, Ravi Pratap, Anand Sharma, Sandhya Gupta and Pari Singh.

Hosts Lucknow with nine gold, four silver and five bronze medals emerged overall championsh­ip in the State School Vovinam Championsh­ip here on Monday. Deoria and Rae Bareli finished second and third, respective­ly.

Dabble College beat Sacred Heart by seven wickets to make it to the next round of the 2nd SAJS Inter School Champions Trophy here on Monday. In other match of the day, St Anns Public School beat Col SN Mishra Memorial School by 10 wickets.

COLTS WIN

Lucknow Colts scored a threewicke­t win over Parth Cricket Club in a league match of the BB Gupta Memorial Cricket Tournament, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari Stadium here on Monday. Needing 146 in 40 overs, Lucknow Colts romped home in 35 overs, losing seven wickets. In other match of the day, Life Care Club beat Central Club by eight wickets.
