6 months on, GO on hiring fails to attract any takers
PRAYAGRAJ : Six-month-old order of state government regarding recruitment of specialized teachers for teaching foreign languages at state-run schools in remote areas seems to have found no takers.
“We have carried out all formalities regarding appointment of teachers for foreign languages, including French, German, Spanish and Japanese in schools but no applications have been received so far,” said DIOS, Prayagraj, RK Vishwakarma.
He said “Presently, we are not even getting teachers for regular subjects like English and Hindi forget about specialized teachers,” he added.
The government had issued the order dated June 21 2018, regarding recruitment of specialized teachers in Government Inter Colleges (GIC) and Government Girls Inter College (GGIC) in remote rural pockets of six districts-in Prayagraj, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Ghaziabad and Mathura.
The motive was to provide an opportunity to rural youths for exploring opportunities in foreign universities besides seeking employment in tourism sector.
At least two foreign languages were to be taught in the schools with a minimum of 25 students enrolled in each class of foreign language.
The scheme was applicable for class 9 and 10. The teachers were to appointed on a fixed remuneration of Rs 10,000 per month besides teaching of these languages would be conducted through smart classes.
Officials in secondary education department preferring anonymity revealed at a time when smooth functioning of state-run schools was getting hampered due to shortage of regular subject teachers an order for appointing teachers of foreign languages in remote areas of districts at a fixed remuneration for teaching near illiterate youths was not only funny but illogical.
According to Vishwakarma, eight schools had been selected for the programme including Rajkiya Inter College, Manda; Rajkiya High School, Manda; Rajkiya Uchtar Madhyamik Vidhyalay, Dighiya; Rajkiya Uchtar Madhyamik Vidhyalay, Shankergarh; Rajkiya Balika Inter College, Jasra; Rajkiya Balika Inter College, Phulpur; Rajkiya Balika Inter College, Karchana and Rajkiya Kanya High School, Meja.
It may be mentioned that presently around 62% posts of teachers are vacant in government secondary schools.
In 2,285 schools, there are 27,135 posts of teachers. Out of these 16,765 are vacant.
