Top seed Shambhavi loses in semi-finals

LUCKNOW : It was the end of the road for top seeded Shambhavi Tewari of hosts Uttar Pradesh in the AITA Championsh­ip Series here on Wednesday as she went down fighting to Maharashtr­a’s Chavan Pari S in straight sets in the girls under-18 semi-final.

Despite playing on home turf, Shambhavi found the going tough and lost to Chavan 4-6, 3-6 in a thriller. In the second semifinal, Chahana B defeated Tanushree Pandey 7-6 (5), 6-0.

The other upset of the day came in the boys under-16 quarterfin­als as sixth seed Daksh Kumar showed the door to third seed Devansh Verma 6-1, 6-1.

Boys U-18 (quarterfin­als):

Vaibhav Singh Bisht bt Torus Rawat (UK) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4; Siddhant Bhavnani (Mah) bt Arnouv Majumdar (WB) 6-4, 6-3; Pranjal Tiwari (MP) bt Aroun Sameul 7-5, 6-0; Daksh Kumar bt Samit Kesari 6-1, 6-2.

Boys U-16 (quarterfin­als):

Arnouv Majumdar (WB) bt Shourya Singh 5-7, 6-1, 6-0; Kanishk Pandey (TS) bt Arjun Sharma 6-1, 7-6 (5); Daksh Kumar bt Devansh Verma 6-1, 6-1; Torus Rawat (UK) bt Shubham Jeet Lal 6-0, 6-0.

Girls U-18 (semi-finals):

Chavan Pari S (Mah) bt Shambhavi Tiwari 6-4, 6-3; Chahana B (TS) bt Tanushree Pandey 7-6 (5), 6-0.

Girls U-16 (quarterfin­als):

Chahana B (TS) bt Eram Zaidi 6-2, 6-3; Amishi Shukla bt Harsshali NM (Mah) 6-3, 6-3.

MUKESH SHINES

Mukesh Verma took 4/23, whereas Kushagra Srivastava had 2/32 as Divine Club scored a comprehens­ive 55-run win against Youth Club in a C division league match, at the LDA Stadium here on Wednesday. After scoring 173/9 in 40 overs, divin Club got the rivals out for 118 in 26.1 overs.

LCCC IN FINAL

Kul Pratap (60) and Vishwa P Rawat (48) helped Life Care Cricket Club enter final of the BB Gupta Memorial Cricket Tournament, defeating Panthers Cricket Academy by three wickets here on Wednesday. Ashish Chopra struck highest 84 for the losers.
