MLS club Columbus Crew keeper set for Man City

LONDON: Manchester City have agreed a deal that will see United States internatio­nal goalkeeper Zack Steffen join them from MLS side Columbus Crew next July, the Premier League champs said. The financial details of the contract were not revealed but Crew said the transfer fee was the largest in their history and the highest received by an MLS side for a goalkeeper. “Today’s announceme­nt regarding next summer is a special moment... I look forward to finishing my time with this club on a strong note. I am eager to continue to put in the work to be the best teammate I can,” Steffen said.

VAR IN COPA DEL REY

MADRID: The video assistant referee system will be used in Copa del Rey from January and in second division games next season at the latest, the Spanish football (RFEF) associatio­n said Tuesday. The RFEF introduced VAR in La Liga at the start of the season.

“The Board of Directors of the RFEF today approved the extension of the VAR to further official competitio­ns, the Copa del Rey and the Segunda Division,” the RFEF said in a statement.

MOOY FITNESS CONCERN

SYDNEY: Injured midfielder Aaron Mooy looks set to miss part of Australia’s Asian Cup defence next month after posting a photo of his knee in a brace.

Mooy sustained the injury in Huddersfie­ld Town’s 1-0 defeat at Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday and reports say the 28-year-old could be out for up to six weeks with a medial ligament strain.
