CANTT BOARD ELECTIONS POSTPONED INDEFINITELY

LUCKNOW: The elections of Cantonment Board were postponed indefinitely after six of the eight corporators filed their nominations for the post of vice-chairman on Thursday.

According to the rules, there can be only two nominations. Ideally, a candidate must be nominated by a corporator and one supporter but these six candidates supported each other and also nominated each other.

The corporators assembled at the hall of Cantt board in the morning but were not able to reach any consensus on the name of a vice- chairman.

It is pertinent to mention that the seat of the vice- chairman is lying vacant for last one year after the resignation of Anjum Ara, estranged wife of gangster Saleem who divorced her.

It is said that that these corporators are acting under pressure from dreaded mafia Saleem and Sohrab who are lodged in Tihar Jail.

When the gangster separated from his wife, he allegedly asked these corporators to remove Anjum Ara as vice-chairman of Cantt Board.

After they brought a no-confidence vote against her, she had to resign.

Sources said the gangsters don’t want anyone to become vice chairman and that’s why these corporators are acting in a strange way.

The corporators apparently fear Saleem and Sohrab after the gang allegedly shot dead one of the corporators, Pappu Pandey, a few years back.

However, Cantonment Board chairman Major General Pravesh Puri said the board will take legal advice over the issue before calling the next meeting for the election of vice-chairman.
