INSTITUTE’S 35TH FOUNDATION DAY TODAY

LUCKNOW:Padma Bhushan Dr Naresh Trehan, noted cardiovasc­ular & thoracic surgeon and chairman & managing director of Medanta, Gurgaon, would deliver the 35th foundation day oration at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) here on Friday.

He would deliver the talk on ‘Indian Healthcare- The Road Ahead’.

Anup Chandra Pandey, IAS, chief secretary of UP and president of SGPGIMS, will be the chief guest on the occasion and is supposed to give away the annual awards to residents and paramedica­l staff.

A blood donation camp will also be organized from 9am to 2pm by the blood transfusio­n department of the institute. The day will end up with a cultural program by the employees and doctors of the SGPGI. Addressing media persons on Thursday, director of the institute, professor Rakesh Kapoor said, “Today, SGPGI ranks among India’s top medical institutio­ns, delivering state-of-art medical care, specialty teaching, training and research.“He said that in last four years, the SGPGI had become the best in producing research papers and was rated among top 10 medical institutes of India by the Time Magazine.

He added, “As many as 1,00,919 new patients have registered this year and 4.59 lakh patients have paid follow up visit in the medical institute last year. Besides, 56,509 patients were admitted and surgeries were performed on 13,987 patients.”

Prof Kapoor said that last year, a 24-hour lab was set up for giving the medical reports in 2 hours and 10 beds were also increased in the critical care medicine.
