LUCKNOW : With minimum temperatures staying under the 10-degree mark, Lucknowites can expect a colder week ahead.

According to the Indian Metrological Department (IMD), the minimum temperatures on Saturday and Sunday are likely to be eight and seven degrees respectively.

The department has also forecast showers at some places in the eastern parts of the state, including Lucknow. The rainfall will add to the chill.

Rains are also expected on Monday. The Met department has also issued alert of cold westerly winds that will sweep through the region over the weekend.

The maximum temperature will also record a dip and is expected to remain near the 20-degree mark.

Considering the drop in temperatures, local administration has set up shelter homes in several parts of the city. Officials have also distributed firewood and made other heating arrangements at shelter homes.

While the dip in mercury will affect daily life making it difficult especially for children and elderly, it will benefit farmers. The drop in temperature, according to experts, will be beneficial for Rabi crops.

Doctors have suggested that people should keep themselves protected from dipping temperature.

“Rain though helps bring down air pollution temporarily, but it will further reduce temperature particularly during night. Hence, people should take note of this condition and take measures to keep themselves warm,” said Prof Vinod Jain, senior faculty, KGMU.
