Shooters get bulk of TOPS berths

NEWDELHI:A host of young and talented shooters have been included in the Target Olympics Mission Scheme (TOPS) by the Sports Authority of India’s Mission Olympic Cell on Thursday.

Based on their performanc­e in major internatio­nal and domestic meets, 16 shooters, including Apurvi Chandela, Mehuli Ghosh, Saurabh Chaudhary and Elavenil Valarivan, have been extended support for the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.

Names included: Shooting: Men: Ravi Kumar, Deepak Kumar (10m air rifle); Abhishek Verma, Saurabh Chaudhary, OP Mitharwal (10m air pistol); Sanjeev Rajput (50m rifle 3 pos); Anish Bhanwala (25m rapid fire) Kynan Chenai (trap); Lakshay Sheoran (trap); Angad Veer Singh Bajwa (skeet) Women: Apurvi Chandela, Elavenil Valarivan, Mehuli Ghosh (10m air rifle); Anjum Moudgil (10m air rifle and 50m rifle 3 pos); Manu Bhaker (10m and 25m pistol); Rahi Sarnobat (25m pistol). Tennis: Divij Sharan and Rohan Bopanna; Table Tennis: A Sharath Kamal; G Sathiyan; Manika Batra.

NEW DELHI: Ravinder Routela of Uttarakhan­d Police won the 5000m event, clocking 14:42.17 sec in the All India Police Athletics Championsh­ip being organised by CISF.

NATIONAL SQUASH

NEWDELHI:Top seed Mahesh Mangaonkar beat Naveen Jangra 11-4, 11-5, 11-2 to enter the quarter-finals of the National Squash Championsh­ip. Gaurav Nandrajog beat Suhail Kapur 11-4, 12-10, 11-5 to enter quarters.
