LUCKNOW: Commuters heaved a sigh of relief from traffic jams after a ban on e-rickshaws was enforced on some of the busy stretches in the city on Friday.

SSP (Lucknow) Kalanidhi Naithani led the drive to make the ban effective and streamline vehicular movement on roads.

ASP (east) Sarvesh Mishra, circle officer (Hazratganj) Abhay Mishra and other cops were also present.

The police challaned 27 vehicle owners and seized 15 e-rickshaws.

During the drive, when the SSP reached Maharana Pratap crossing, Hussainganj, he was caught in a traffic jam.

When he alighted from the car, he spotted a mechanic repairing a four-wheeler on the roadside that was causing jam.

A challan was issued to the mechanic for creating nuisance.

“Gradually, the problem of traffic jam will be resolved. We will continue this drive. Stern action will be taken against encroachers, if they come back,” said the SSP.

A car workshop operating illegally on the roadside near Vikas Deep building, Hussainganj, was sealed.

Last week, workshop owner Mehar Ali was warned and asked to close the workshop as it was causing traffic jam, said ASP Sarvesh Mishra.

A case was lodged against the workshop owner at the Hussainganj police station, added Mishra.
