Maharashtr­a girl wins a golden double in tennis

LUCKNOW:Chavan Pari S of Maharashtr­a won a golden double at the AITA Championsh­ip Series, winning both girls under-18 and under-16 singles titles here on Friday.

Fifth seeded Chavan defeated second seed Chahana B 6-3, 6-2 in under-18 final, before outplaying third seed Amishi Shukla of MP 6-1, 6-0 in under-16 final.

Maharashtr­a’s Siddhant Bhavnani beat MP’s Pranjal Tiwari 6-3, 6-2 in boys under-18 final, whereas under-16 title went to Torus Rawat of Uttarakhan­d, who defeated Kanishk Pandey 6-1, 6-0.

CHESS TOURNEY

A chess tournament, beginning December 16 here, will be played five categories of open, women, under-16, 14 age and 10. Last day of entry is Saturday.

STATE HANDBALL

Hosts Ayodhya won the men’s title at the Babu Prithvi Singh Memorial State Handball Championsh­ip, defeating Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi 30-27 on Friday. Azamgarh finished third, defeating SSB 27-22.

FINE SHOW

Sushmita Tripathi, a trainee of SAI regional centre, here staged a fine show at the Junior National Wushu Championsh­ip, winning a bronze medal at Namakal in Tamil Nadu. Sushmita is being trained by Vijendra Singh. This is for the first time, when a girl from Lucknow SAI has won medal at junior nationals.

RAVIKANT SHINES

Former Junior India skipper Ravikant Shukla on Friday smashed a fine 114 in 105 balls with the help of 13 fours and three sixes to help Akhil Infra Cricket Club beat Lucknow Cricket Academy by 122 runs in an A division league, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here.

AICC piled up 224/9 in 40 overs after being sent to bat first. In reply, LCA collapsed for 102 in 28.5 overs with Chandresh Kanojiya and Vikash Singh sharing six wickets between them for the winners.

Meanwhile, in C division matches Central Cricket Club beat Tariq Cricket Club by five wickets, before Naqvi Sporting registerin­g a similar win against Gujaral Academy.

JITENDRA HITS TON

Jitendra Singh struck an unbeaten 120, which came off just 77 balls with the help of 17 boundaries and a six as Excer Cricket Club crushed Hindustan Fire Club by eight wickets in a league match of the Phoolmati Om Prakash Memorial Cricket League here on Friday.
