Dixit memorial veteran’s league from January 25

LUCKNOW: For the first time, a veteran’s cricket league in memory of VK Dixit for Matharo Trophy begins on January 25 here under the auspices of the Lucknow Veterans Cricket Associatio­n. Last date of entry is January 20.

SAURABH SHINES

A sparkling half-century by Saurabh Singh (61, 93b, 10x4) helped Chandan XI score a convincing 94-run win against UP Rangers Cricket Club in a D division league here on Sunday.

With Saurabh’s knock, Chandan XI piled up 206/9 in 40 overs while batting first winning the toss. In reply, UP Rangers Cricket Club could make 112 in 32.1 overs with Rahul Dhawan taking 3/18. Kalpakant Behra, Vikas Lamba and Manoj Singh shared six wickets between them.

WINTER CUP

Sahara Estates Cricket Academy scored a thumping nine-wicket win against Aryavart Cricket Academy in the Winter Cup here on Sunday. Aryavart Cricket Academy could make 96/7 in 30 overs with Arpit (48) being the top scorer. For SECA, Yuvraj Singh (18/3) and Ayush Bagga (24/2) were the key wicket takers. In reply, SECA romped home in 22.3 overs with Elesh Singh striking unbeaten 40.

VOLLEYBALL TOURNEY

Akansha Campus, Janakipura­m won G Subhash Chandra Bose Memorial Volleyball Tournament, defeating AMC 25-20, 25-19, at the LDA Stadium here.

HOCKEY PROBABLES

As many as 25 probables have been selected for the training camp of the Uttar Pradesh team, which will take part in the 9th Hockey India Senior Men National Hockey Championsh­ip, starting January 31 at Gwalior. The probables included, Diwakar, Aamir, Vikas Sharma, Sunil Yadav, Sumit Kumar, Ajay Yadav, Shivam, Manish Rajbhar, Prashant Chauhan, Danish, Saif, Vishal Singh, Gopi Sonkar, Om Prakash, Kishan, Atul Deep, Iqtidar, Amarjeet, Rohit, Aayush, Abhay, Kavi Yadav, Abhay Kumar, Tarun Adhikari and Dhnanjay.

POOR FINISH

Uttar Pradesh goalkeeper Shiva Singh won the best goalkeeper award at the 47th Senior National Women Handball Championsh­ip held at Sholapur, but the team finished seventh.

Lucknow Billiards and Snooker Associatio­n unanimousl­y reconstitu­ted its Executive Committee for the term of 2019-2020 here on Sunday. IS Malik was retained as its head, whereas Ramesh Sajnani was elected as secretary.
