Upsets galore on day one in AITA tourney

LUCKNOW : Upsets remained the highlights on the opening day of the AITA Talent Series as the day witnessed as many four seeded players making early exits, at the Vijayantkh­and Stadium here on Monday.

Siddharth Kumar first outplayed fourth seed Sajal Kesarwani 6-3, 6-2 in under-16 tie, before brushing aside eight seed Karman Kohli 6-1, 6-0 in under-14 category.

In other two under-16 first round matches Om Yadav upset seeded Mukul Lodhi 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in a thriller, whereas Sanidyadha­r defeated sixth seed Chinamy Kackar 6-2, 6-3.

AVISHKAR EXCELS

Avishkar Parmar scored 71-ball 76 with the help of eight fours and three sixes as National Cricket Club defeated Unity Club by 109 runs in a C division league match here on Monday. Vijay Chauhan also stroked 47 with five fours as NCC piled up 231 in 35 overs. In reply, Unity Club could make 122/8.

Meanwhile, in B division, UP Police defeated Yorker Cricket Club by 14 runs, whereas in C division Lucknow Colts beat Gulmohar Cricket Academy by five wickets, and Panthers Cricket Academy beat Kranti Cricket Club by 27 runs.

A hat-trick by Anees helped hosts Rae Bareli win the State Under-14 Hockey Gold Cup, defeating Jhansi 3-2, at the Moti Lal Nehru Stadium in Rae Bareli on Monday.

Priyanshu Kushwaha and Ketan scored a goal each for Jhansi, but Anees remained the star performer for the winners in the 60-minute summit clash.
