It’s ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’: Yogi CM says funds have been allocated in the budget not to fetch votes but for the welfare of all

LUCKNOW: Terming the Uttar Pradesh budget for 2019-20 as the biggest in the history of the state, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said focusing on ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’, the budget would take UP on the path of developmen­t.

“Funds have been allocated in the budget not to fetch votes but for the welfare of all,” Yogi said, addressing a press conference after finance minister Rajesh Agarwal tabled the budget in the assembly.

“The budget aims at ensuring welfare of all the classes and bringing smiles to the faces of the people. The state has progressed and people are getting benefits. Per capita income of the people in the state has increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 55,000,” he said.

The CM added that the government had brought financial discipline by maintainin­g the Fiscal Responsibi­lity and Budget Management (FRBM) limit. “As compared to previous year, there has been an increase of 11.98% in budgetary allocation,” he said.

Hitting out at the previous Samajwadi Party government, Yogi said: “Earlier, uninterrup­ted power supply was limited to merely five districts but after the formation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, all the 75 districts are getting regular supply.” “The government has provided electricit­y to 11.5 lakh villages and 94 lakh families have been given power connection­s. The government has increased budgetary allocation for power sector by 20.21%,” he said.

Yogi said the government was laying down a network of good roads to connect rural and urban areas. “The budgetary allocation of the PWD has been increased,” he added.

“Irrigation projects pending since 1974 are being completed on priority to bring more agricultur­al areas under irrigation.

Majority of big irrigation projects, covering 30 lakh hectare agricultur­al land, will be completed by December 2019,” he said.

The CM added that the government was giving more than the minimum support price (MSP) to farmers in wheat and paddy purchase. “The purchase of wheat has increased from 37 lakh metric tonne to 53 lakh metric tonne. The purchase of paddy has increased from 42 lakh metric tonne to 45 lakh metric tonne,” he said.

The CM said that the budget allocation for police modernisat­ion and establishm­ent had also been increased.

Expressing commitment to welfare of women, the CM said the government had launched ‘Kanya Sumangala Yojana’ for girls by allocating Rs 1,200 crore to ensure the dignity of women and added that Rs 6,000 crore had been allocated for the constructi­on of toilets. “The government is committed to providing better medical facilities to people and improving the quality of medical education,” he said. “Five new medical colleges have been started and constructi­on of 15 new colleges is in progress. Three new universiti­es are being establishe­d and a policy is being drafted for investment by private players in universiti­es,” he said.
