GORAKHPUR : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Basti Harish Dwivedi on Saturday made a controversial remark on Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s attire.

“In Delhi, Priyanka prefers to wears western attire like jeans and tops, but when she goes to the public (in rural areas), she wears a saree to pretend (there’s a) deep connection with Indian culture, “said Dwivedi.

He was speaking at a mass marriage organised by the social welfare department in Basti under the Mukhya Mantri Samuhik Vivah Yojna.

Dwivedi added Priyanka’s entry in politics would not affect the poll prospects of the BJP, which would win the maximum Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP had won 71 Lok Sabha seats in UP in 2014.

“Priyanka too would fail (in politics) like his brother Rahul Gandhi,” the BJP MP said.

Earlier this year, Harish Dwivedi had courted controversy by saying that if the salary and facilities of public representatives were not increased then they would be bound to steal as they had minimum wages and maximum expenditure on typists, clerks, peons etc .
