Maintain law and order, DGP tells cops

-

LUCKNOW: DGP OP Singh on Wednesday directed the ADGs, IGPs, DIGs and superintendents of police of all districts to take effective measures in their respective areas to maintain law and order on Valentine’s Day on Thursday.

The UP100 and Anti-Romeo Squads were directed to remain on alert.

Singh said youths gather at hotels, clubs, parks, malls, picnic spots, historical monuments and other public places till late night to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

“Various organisations that consider V-Day a symbol of western culture usually take out protest rallies, burn effigies, misbehave with couples, target shops selling greeting cards and even indulge in violence. Youths also drive vehicles at high speed,” he said.

Adequate police force should be deployed at public places and at spots where youths gather for celebration. “The movement of traffic should be controlled and

police officers should ensure that no unpleasant incident takes place,” he added.

SHIV SENA WON’T OPPOSE V-DAY

Shiv Sena activists on Wednesday said they won’t oppose V-Day celebrations in the state.

Anil Singh, state president, Shiv Sena, said activists will not stop couples from celebrating the day.

“The Sena chief has given instructions not to stop youths from celebrating V-Day. Hence we would stick to the instructions,” said Singh.

Shiv Sena’s stand was in contrast to the series of events, reported last year on V-Day, when youths were stopped from celebrating the day.
