LUCKNOW: A day before kickstarting her river journey from Prayagraj to Varanasi to launch her party’s poll campaign, Congress general secretary (east UP) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra targeted the BJP government for neglecting youth, women, farmers and working class.

Priyanka said she would reach out to the people with the help of the Ganga which supported the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Priyanka is embarking on a 140-km river journey from March 18 to 20 and will travel from Prayagraj to Varanasi as part of her ‘Sanchi baat Priyanka ke saath’ campaign beginning Monday.

“As a soldier of the Congress, my responsibility is to join hands with you to change the politics of Uttar Pradesh. The youth, farmers and working class are facing problems and we want to share their pain. In the din of political calculations, the voice of youth, women, farmers and workers has disappeared from state’s policies,” said Priyanka in an open letter to people before the launch of her poll campaign.

Priyanka reached Lucknow on Sunday morning to interact with partymen, meet delegations and get feedback about the prevailing political situation in the state. She asked the partymen to forget differences and work unitedly to ensure the victory for party candidates.

Priyanka met delegations that included representatives of potato farmers, anganwadi workers, Asha bahus and employees who are demanding restoration of old pension scheme.

“Members of the delegations requested Priyanka to include their demands in the Congress manifesto. The police resorted to lathi charge on people holding demonstration in support of their demands,” said Congress legislature party leader Ajay Lallu. “I will undertake the journey by river route, bus, train and also go on ‘padyatra’ and reach out to you through all the means. Ganga is a symbol of truth and equality and is an embodiment of ‘Ganga-jamuni’ culture. Ganga does not discriminate among the people. It gives support to the people of Uttar Pradesh and I am taking its help to reach out to you,” she said in the letter.

“I am closely attached to this land of UP. I am reaching out to you for a direct dialogue as no political change can begin without listening to you and sharing your pain. I assure you that we will bring this change on the foundation of truth and move ahead to solve your problems,” she said.
