LUCKNOW: Doordarshan (Lucknow) has decided to make a documentary on the reallife stories of acid attack survivors.
The bravery and struggle of 13 girls and a boy who battled acid attack and came out of the trauma successfully to establish themselves will be highlighted.
“We decided to highlight the bravery of acid attack survivors through a documentary. The film will show their inner strength through which they overcame such physical and mental trauma. The effort is to show a sense of impunity involved in acid attacks,” said Atma Prakash Mishra, senior programme executive, Lucknow Doordarshan.
He added, “The documentary will highlight the need for new laws, need to generate a fear of punishment amongst acid attackers and those who keep on selling acid despite a blanket ban on its sale.”
Mishra said, “We are going to shoot the documentary at the Sheroes Hangout here on May 27 and 28. Thirteen girls and one boy are working who have faced acid attack in their lives. The courage shown by them is outstanding. How they were devastated by the acid attack and how they overcame fear and fought back will be shown in the documentary.”
The documentary would be sent to the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union to highlight the steps taken by the state government to rehabilitate acid attack victims.
“An acid attack is not something you can physically or mentally move on from or effectively hide. It’s a scar on the mind and the body, which always remains despite all rehabilitation process and treatment,” said Mishra.
He said, “The production of the film would be managed by Pawan Jhingaran and background score would be given by Hemchandra Singh. When completed, the movie would be relayed by all the centres of Doordarshan.”
