Akash wins a bronze medal at World Championsh­ip

LUCKNOW: Ghaziabad’s Akash Tyagi on Sunday won a bronze medal at the World Bench Press Championsh­ip at Tokyo (Japan), by lifting a weight of 130 kg. This is the first time when someone from Uttar Pradesh has won a medal at the World Championsh­ip. Ergin V of Russia and Kowal Czyk M of Poland stood first and second, respective­ly.

ALLAHABAD BANK WIN

Ashish Kumar took 3/25, whereas Amrendra hammered an unbeaten 58 in 48 balls with the help of six fours and a six as Punjab National Bank lifted the maiden Bank Premier League Trophy, defeating Allahabad Bank by eight wickets, at the B Ground of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Internatio­nal Cricket Stadium here on Sunday.

SELECTION TRIALS

Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow would be conducting under-16 trials on Monday, at the CSD Sahara Ground from 8.00 a.m. onwards. CAL secretary, KM Khan informed that the Under-19 Zonal matches would be played from May 24, at the Chowk Stadium here.

Besides two teams of hosts Lucknow, teams from Bahraich and Bareilly zones would also be participat­ing.

ORTS ACADEMY

Sir Padampat Singhania Sports Academy on Sunday launched its first branch here with former India speedster RP Singh cutting the ribbon at the Tender Hearts School. The first two branches of the academy in Kanpur have training facilities for tennis, football, cricket, table tennis, skating, etc.

Aryan scored a goal in the second half to help Dragon Football Club win the 1st Excellia Football Cup 7-A-Side Tournament, defeating DPS Eldeco by a solitary goal here on Sunday. After a goalless first half, Aryan netted the all-important in the 38th minute.
