LUCKNOW: The National Medicos Organisation (NMO) on Saturday demanded that the junior doctor suspended for allegedly molesting a minor attendant in KGMU’s radiotherapy department should be sacked and also alleged that he was being shielded by a few senior faculty members.

“It is not the first time a complaint has been filed against this doctor. In August 2017, he tried to molest the wife of another doctor in the hostel but the matter was hushed up despite a complaint,” said NMO secretary Bhupendra Singh.

“People in the medical university administration who have shielded this doctor should be exposed and action taken against them as well,” he added.

The demand comes a day after the KGMU administration suspended

the accused doctor after primary inquiry and made a fourmember committee to probe the charges. The proctor also terminated a ward boy found involved in the case with the accused doctor. The inquiry committee includes Prof Sunita Tiwari, Dr Anoop Verma, Dr BK Ojha and Dr Sujata Dev. The committee has started its probe and will submit its report to the KGMU administration next week.

“Patients come here for treatment and trust doctors and other medical staff. If the medical staff misbehaves with patients or attendants they feel helpless. If someone has filed a complaint it should be given priority so that such incidents do not make KGMU authorities feel guilty of ignoring offenders,” said Dr Bhupendra.

“There have been reports that resident doctors come on duty after consuming liquor. Such acts should be checked as not just the safety of attendants but the life of patients is also at risk,” said a senior faculty member who did not wish to be named.
