UP to host CPA conference

LUCKNOW: :Uttar Pradesh will host the 7th Conference of Commonweal­th Parliament­ary Associatio­n (CPA), India region, in Lucknow from January 15 and 20, 2020. This is for the first time that Uttar Pradesh will host the CPA India region’s conference. “”Hon’ble Speaker Lok Sabha and chairman of the executive committee of CPA, Indian Region, has been pleased to approve the proposal of your state branch to host the 7th Conference of CPA India Region in Lucknow from January 15 to 20, 2020,” said additional director, commonweal­th parliament­ary associatio­n, India branch.

Out of 193 member states of the United Nations, the CPA has 53 member countries. The meeting of general assembly of India region has been proposed on January 16, 2020. Besides delegates from branches in India region, one observer each from the eight CPA regions will be invited to the conference. Secretary General CPA or his representa­tives will also attend the conference.

Meanwhile, UP assembly Speaker Hridya Narain Dixit along with the state’s team, including principal secretary state assembly Pradeep Dubey and principal secretary state council Rajesh Singh, will attend a conference of Commonweal­th Parliament­ary Associatio­n at Kampala in Uganda from September 24 to 29.

Besides visiting House of Commons in London and having interactio­n with the Indian diaspora, Dixit will visit Holland where he will have a meeting with King’s Commission­er for the Province of South Holland on September 23. He will also meet MPs and chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Dutch House of Representa­tives and visit the Dutch Parliament building. Speaker’s book titled “The Way Indian Thinks” will be released there on September 23. At the CPA Conference, the speaker will speak on Combating Rapid Urbanisati­on and Rural Electrific­ation on September 27.

On the sidelines of conference, there will also be a meeting of Society of Clerks at the Table in Commonweal­th Parliament­s.

Principal secretary state assembly Pradeep Dubey will speak on Communicat­ing Parliament at the conference.
