‘Govt committed to give cane industry tech boost’

LUCKNOW: The state government is committed to strengthen­ing the sugarcane industry through technology.

UP principal secretary (Sugar Industry and Cane Developmen­t) and Cane Commission­er Sanjay Bhoosreddy gave this assurance on Thursday at the sixth edition of the Confederat­ion of India Industry (CII) Sugar Tech 2019.

Addressing the gathering, Bhoosreddy said: “The government being the enabler and facilitato­r can provide policy infrastruc­ture and private players can bring in the desired investment.” He also mentioned that this deliberati­on was much needed in view of various policies and interventi­ons rolled out by the central government for the sugarcane industry.

Bhoosreddy also pointed out that the state government favours public-private partnershi­p model for the rapid growth of the sugar industry.

was Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research director A D Pathak, who stressed on publicpriv­ate partnershi­p for research and developmen­t of high-yielding varieties of sugarcane.

He also urged the fraternity to first test a variety to understand its pros and cons and only after two –three years circulate and propagate it.

Deliberati­ons focused on changing the product mix for sustainabi­lity, technologi­cal interventi­on to improve innovation at the farm level.

Around 100 representa­tives including business heads, sugar mill owners, technologi­sts, government officials and academicia­ns were present at the event.
