Flood situation deteriorates, CM’s aerial survey today
LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will make an aerial survey of the flood affected areas in Prayagraj, Ghazipur and Varanasi districts on Friday.
Later, the CM will meet the flood victims and distribute relief material as well.
The increase in the water level of major rivers, including the Ganga, Yamuna, Chambal, Betwa, Ken, Ghaghra and the Sharda, has flooded the low lying areas in Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Banda, Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, Gonda and Barabanki districts. The National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and Flood team of the state police were pressed into service to carry out rescue and relief operation in Varanasi, Ghazipur, Ballia and Prayagraj districts.
The rise in the water level of Yamuna flooded large area in Etawah, Auraiya and Kanpur Dehat districts. Water of Yamuna touched the Chill Bridge located on Kanpur-Banda highway. In Hamirpur, the in spate Yamuna and Betwa flooded the residential area. In Banda, two dozen villages have been marooned. A district administration officer said operation had been launched to shift the villagers to safe spots.
In Etawah, the flood water eroded the roads cutting the link to one dozen villages. In Bhognipur area of Kanpur district, 21 villages have been marooned. In Gonda district, one dozen villages located in Colonelganj area have been flooded. An irrigation department officer said the flood situation deteriorated after release of water from the dams and barrages in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Agriculture land in several districts had been submerged under the flood water, he said. In Varanasi, Ghazipur, Ballia and Prayagraj districts, the Ganga was flowing above danger level. The Yamuna was flowing above danger mark in Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Bnada and Prayagraj. While the Sharda was flowing above danger level in Lakhimpur Kheri, Saryu was above danger level in Bahraich. The Betwa was flowing above danger level in Hamirpur and the Chambal was flowing above danger level on Rajasthan border. The Ghaghra was flowing above danger level in Barabanki, Faizabad and Ballia districts.
Relief Commissioner GS Priyadarshi said the district administration officers had been told to supply food, drinking water, medicine and other items to the flood affected.
