‘You can be a saviour for accident victims’
LUCKNOW: Many people are injured in road accidents every day. But if you witness a mishap, you can be a saviour to a victim by providing aid on the road, said experts at the annual conference of the UP chapter of Association of Physicians of India (UPICON2019) that began on Friday.
“Learning how to help a road accident victim is not rocket science. You just need to know three things – checking airway/ breathing of the victim, reading the pulse on wrist and neck, and chest pumping that may be required,” said Dr D Himanshu,
coordinator of the workshop at UPICON-2019..
“If fluid is coming out of the mouth, it should be drained out by moving the victim’s face sideways. Shift the injured to the side
of the road, if required but avoid major movement as there may be major internal injuries in the neck or other parts that may worsen to turn fatal,” he said.
He said such aid, if provided within 5 or 10 minutes of the accident, could save lives.
Experts also spoke on different topics such as basic life support, biomedical waste disposal, vaccination and its role. On the second day, experts including Dr Kauser Usman, Dr Madhukar Rai and Dr Anupam Wakhlu, will deliver talks on different topics that concern Uttar Pradesh.
“We always discuss data from across the world and compare it with Indian factsheet. But this time, we are going to take up issues that affect Uttar Pradesh – such as AES, Hepatitis and other such health problems,” said Himanshu.
