NOIDA: The 28-year-old son of a joint secretary in the University Grants Commission was allegedly abducted by three men early Friday, driven around the city for four hours and robbed of his valuables before he was dropped off in Ghaziabad.

The victim was identified as Anuj Goswami, a resident of Sector 72. According to his family, he works with a leading national daily and is in film production. He was on his way home after meeting a friend when he stopped in Sector 72 outside a cigarette vend around 12.30am on September 20.

“Three men took him hostage at gunpoint in his own vehicle. They drove around the city for four hours before they finally dropped him off around 4.30am near the Ghukna petrol pump,” Dr Surendra Singh, the victim’s father said. He alleged that his son was assaulted by the suspects, who robbed him of his valuables—his phone, laptop, ATM cards, etc. “They even stopped at an ATM and forced him to withdraw money, but luckily, the transaction was declined. They would have killed him too, but the car broke down and they fled, leaving him and the vehicle behind,” Singh said. The police said that the suspects had driven the car very rashly, even hitting it on the divider twice. The radiator started leaking and that is why the vehicle broke down, the police said, adding that the suspects seemed to be either rookies or under the influence of alcohol.

“We are trying to gather CCTV camera footage. Arrests will be made soon,” Dharmendra Kumar Sharma, SHO, Sector 49 police station, said.
