MUMBAI: Congress leader Milind Deora on Tuesday described the speculation over the exchange of tweets between him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “unfounded” and said that nothing more should be read out of it.

Deora’s tweet praising the PM’s address in Texas had triggered speculation about his future political role.Deora, a former Mumbai Congress president, on Tuesday said he would remain bipartisan when it comes to issues of national interest and foreign policy.

“I will not compromise on my core beliefs even though politics continues to become increasingly uncharitable and partisan,”he added.

Deora had tweeted on Sunday after PM’s speech at the “Howdy Modi” event in Houston, saying the address was momentous for India’s soft power diplomacy. He had said that his father, the late Murli Deora, was the early architect of deeper Indo-US ties.

“In my many interactions with my Democrat and Republican friends, they too acknowledge India’s leadership in the 21st century,” he had tweeted on Monday. In response, Modi had thanked Deora for his appreciation and had remembered late Murli Deora as his friend who was committed to strong ties with the US.

After the series of tweets, there was speculation about Deora’s future political role. He has been keeping himself away from the party affairs since his resignation as Mumbai unit chief was accepted by the interim party chief Sonia Gandhi earlier this month.
